Installed yesterday the Bpel Process manager (version 2.0.11) and designer on windows XP. I choose the version with the build-in OC4J server. Installation went flawless....., but when I started the server errors came flying by. Although the stacktrace was a bit cryptic the solution came quickly: the runtime does not like java5 :-(. Post-installation of java 1.4.2 didn't help much. Because during the bpel pm installation it registers the path to the jdk in some configuration and command files and I didn't find all occurrences. So I did a re-installation and this time no problems at al.
Although the first tutorial was not entirely up-to-date I was able to create a working example in a short time. Actually I liked the tutorial because it provides a lot of information about what you are doing.
More later.
